But the clinical impact was always explained as being a few years and more large-scale studies away from reality. In 2010, forward-thinking academics forecasted [whole-genome sequencing in a matter of hours for only $30](http://archive.boston.com/yourtown/cambridge/articles/2010/06/07/start_up_aims_to_sequence_human_genomes_for_30_in_just_a_few_hours/) (right around that same time, a [Stanford researcher sequenced his own genome for less than $50,000](http://www.nytimes.com/2009/08/11/science/11gene.html) – a record low at that point). Today, we’re finally beginning to deliver on the promises of precision medicine with NGS-based clinical genomics assays informing treatment decisions in clinics around the globe. But regulatory bodies have moved at a glacial pace in comparison to the almost daily clinical research breakthroughs, so it’s now more important than ever to share best practices, expert insights, and industry news as widely as possible.
